Plus Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal return to the court in the same week
2024 is the first year since 2002 that none of the so called 'Big Four' have won a Grand Slam men's singles title in tennis as Jannick Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz both took two titles each through the year.
What with Roger Federer's retirement in 2022, Andy Murray calling it a day after the Olympics in Paris and both Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal battling injuries, 2024 is a year when the four players who dominated men's tennis for so long have started to give way to a younger generation.
If you are a massive fan of those four players though, there is an interesting 7-day period this September when you can see three of the four all in action.
But Murray has retired, Tom... How can he be playing? Stick with me here. I'm going to run through the details below.
First up, Novak Djokovic returns to the court after his US Open third-round exit in Belgrade during the weekend of 14th and 15th September as part of the Serbian Davis Cup team who play Greece.
Tickets have sold out for the event, which is understandable given its Djokovic playing for his country in his home country, but there's still two more options to see both Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray.
Andy Murray switches tennis for golf with BMW PGA Championship pro-am appearance
Andy Murray retired from tennis in the summer after his Olympics doubles run with Dan Evans. During his career he won three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic Gold medals and a Davis Cup title for Great Britain, to name just a few accolades.
Just a few weeks after retiring from the game though, he has found a new love, and that is golf. So much so, he has been confirmed to play the pro-am at the upcoming BMW PGA Championship.
To make it a Scottish affair, he'll be playing the Pro-Am with fellow Scot, Robert MacIntyre, who won the Scottish Open title earlier in 2024.
The pro-am will take place on Wednesday September 18th and tickets are still available for £33.
The BMW PGA Championship takes place at Wentworth, the headquarters of the DP World Tour and is easily reachable from London by train.
Rafa Nadal to return to tennis at Laver Cup
Rafa Nadal is no doubt coming to end of his career. With each tournament he plays millions of his fans fear it might be his last. It's the reason I travelled to Las Vegas in February to see him play in the Netflix Slam against Carlos Alcaraz, just to make sure I saw him live one last time.
Once again when Nadal steps on court, many will wonder whether it will be his last tournament. If it is, it'll be fitting that he goes out after competing in his good friend Roger Federer's tournament.
Tickets are still available to be at the Laver Cup which takes place between 20th and 22nd September in Berlin at the Uber Arena.
You'd also like to think Federer may hit a ball at the Laver Cup, considering it is the tournament he created. Although there is no confirmation, perhaps he will make an appearance. If he does, then all four of the 'Big Four' will be back in competitive sport in a 7-day period giving fans a great opportunity to see them all live once again.
Let me know which player and event excites you the most. I'd love to see Murray at the BMW PGA Championship.
