Newcastle United's Woltemade gets his first goal in black & white, just hours after I get married

Saturday 13th September 2025, Newcastle, England

Brian Kilcline joins me for match day at St James' Park

I'm travelling home to Edinburgh on a train journey that normally takes one hour and 20 minutes. This evening though, it's a three hour journey via Carlisle due to engineering works on the East Coast mainline.

Still, I have three points and a Newcastle United win to reflect on and as it so happens, I got married yesterday. So there is a smile on my face as I settle in to the journey.

You may think it's unusual I have been working the day after my wedding, but as joyous as yesterday's nuptials were, it was a small gathering for the legal marriage. The big ceremony and occasion is taking place in a few weeks (during the international break, of course) in Mallorca.

So, my first match day working as a married man, and a first for Nick Woltemade too. Can he supply the much-needed firepower to kick-start our season?

The answer is a resounding yes after a thumping header 29 minutes into his first game at St James' Park and it's a first win of the season for Eddie Howe's men. Up into the top half of the Premier League on we go with Barcelona next at St James', this coming Thursday.

My guest today was the legend that is Brian Kilcline. "Killer Cline" as fans greet him in passing. He's wonderful company on match days and full of stories.

He spoke passionately about the first time he came to St James' to play as a 16-year-old playing for Notts County and how the fans used to sit on the touchline during the match, such was the norm back in those days.

You can tell he loves being back at the stadium too, in amazement at how much it has grown over the years.

And despite the fact he isn't involved in football on a day-to-day basis anymore, he still has a keen eye for the game. The likes of Tonali, Murphy and Schär all catching his attention today. They did all have a brilliant game. Tonali is a joy to watch isn't he?

I must also thank Brian as after I did the shout outs to those celebrating special occasions within the Wings hospitality rooms, he jumped in to give me a shout out for getting married too.

So, three points, a wedding and 7 hours of train travelling. It's been a busy 24 hours.
